It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved aunt, Mary Rose (Long) Saunders, on Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014, the day before her 85th birthday, at the Northside General Hospital, North Sydney.
Rose was born, Oct. 31, 1929, the daughter of the late James and Elizabeth (Foster) Long. Rose was employed for 20 years with Physicians Services at the Victoria General Hospital in Halifax until her retirement. She was a very kind and generous person especially to her family. She returned back home to Cape Breton to become a loving caregiver to members of her family, including her parents, her brother Arthur and his wife Doris, her sister Patricia and Angus MacNeil, until they passed away.
Rose enjoyed playing the piano, she came from a very musical family where music was a part of all family gatherings. She was a member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney and the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She is survived by her nephews, Dan (Linda, who was her caregiver), George (Cecilia), Cyril (Marlene) and James (Michelle) MacDonald, Bill (Margaret), Stan (Ann) and Mickey (Darlene) Long, Ron (Jacquelyn) Clarke, Paul Clarke and Brian (Cindy) Clarke and nieces, Patricia (Peter) Smith, Janet (Ken) Steele, Debbie Sakalauskas, Betty Albert, Rita (Brian) Mcully and Maureen McGuire. Also surviving are her great friends, Joe and Shirley Dolomont, Halifax and Florence Reid, North Sydney.
Rose was predeceased by her husband, George Saunders; brothers, Arthur (Doris), Joe (Frances) and Jim Long; sisters, Regis (Professor Jim) MacDonald, Patricia Long (Angus MacNeil), Theresa (Ronald) Clarke, Rita (Mickey) McGuire.
No visitation by request. A private family funeral service will be held. A burial will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Halifax.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
