Lieu de décès : Sydney
Date de décès : 28 janvier 2015

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Staff Sergeant Ambrose Neil James McDonald (retired), a devoted husband, proud father, grandfather, brother and friend.
He was predeceased by his parents the late Ambrose and Normanda (MacSween) McDonald.
Ambrose is survived by his loving wife, Dolena (MacLeod); two sons, Delton and James; daughter, Rose; grandchildren, Jenna, Alexander, Devin and Keenan and great-grandson Nathan. Also surviving are sister Catherine Muller, as well as brother and sisters in-law, and many nieces and nephews.
Ambrose was predeceased by his brothers, Ambrose (in infancy) and Neil; brothers-in-law Ronald Muller, Douglas MacLeod and Dennis MacLeod.
In the early stages of his career Ambrose served as a military police officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force. He was held in high regard and well respected by colleagues and peers as he continued his service as a dedicated member of the Sydney Police Department for 18 years as an inspector and then continued on with the Cape Breton Regional Police Services, retiring as Staff Sergeant in 1999. He went on to serve as chief of the Eskasoni Police and later employed in a lead security position for Marine Atlantic through the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires.
After many years in Sydney Amby moved to North River and treasured his life on Rooster Hill. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting with his buddies and loved taking long walks in the woods. Although he will be sadly missed he has been reunited with his hunting buddies Neil, Dennis and Frank.
Amby was very active in his community. He enjoyed being on stage with the St. Ann’s Bay Players and was passionate to the revitalization of the Gaelic language. He was a dedicated volunteer of many church organizations, serving on the board of directors of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, a valued member of the choir and men’s club. He was an active volunteer with the North River Community Hall and its various community events such as Celtic Colours and the men’s breakfast on Saturday mornings.
Special thanks to Dr. Sharieff, Dr. Ritter and the staff and volunteers of the An Cala Pallative Care Unit.
Visitation will take place Sunday, Feb. 1 at the St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in North River from 2-9 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 2 at the St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church with Margie MacLeod officiating. A celebration of Amby’s life will be held at the North River Community Hall after the memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society An Cala Palliative Care Unit, the Canadian Diabetes Association, Cape Breton Branch or a charity of choice.
