“If tears could build a stairway, and memories a lane, I’d walk right up to heaven and bring you home again”
It is with deep and overwhelming sadness, that we the family of Mrs. Frances Turner, announce her sudden passing on Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2015, at the Northside Community Guest Home.
Fran lived a wonderful and fulfilling life, and for 98 years, was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Fran was young-at-heart, and can only be described as a confidante and even a co-conspirator, especially when it came to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren! The important ‘life lessons’ that we all learned from our beautiful and knowledgeable mother, especially how to keep proper records of any and all daily events in our lives, no matter how important, continually showed us her unconditional love. We all will carry these special memories with us from now until we meet again.
Born July 28, 1916, in Grand Banks, Newfoundland, Frances was the daughter of the late Harry and Rachel (Price) Witherall.
As the eldest of fourteen children, Fran left school at an early age to help her parents raise and support her 13 brothers and sisters. This dedication to family carried on to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a good example of this was when even in her 80s she could be found in a pup tent with her great-grandsons Michael and Mark.
Fran is survived by her only daughter Frances (Mrs. Charles Seymour), North Sydney, son David (Collette Parsons), Louisbourg and daughter-in-law Norma Turner, Whittier, Ca., also by grandchildren, Raylene (Jim Bowerman), LaHabra, Ca, Catherine Turner, Whittier, Ca, Charlene (Mrs. Paul Perry), Sydney, Rayanne Turner (Timmie LeMoine), Sydney, Norma Jean Turner, Whittier, Ca, David Turner (Judy Musgrave), Sydney. Also surviving are her beloved and cherished great-grandchildren Michael and Mark Perry, Shayna and Savannah Turner, Brian Ingram, Garrett, Jacob and Rachel Van Dyck, Stephanie and David Turner, by her sisters, Mildred (Donald) Inder, North Sydney, Pauline (Steven) MacKeigan, Sydney Mines and godson James Inder, North Sydney.
Frances was predeceased by her loving husband of 61 years David, Dec. 11, 1996, her son Raymond, Nov. 17, 2014, as well as six brothers George, Charles, William, Benjamin, Frederick, Raymond and five sisters Olive, Beatrice, Edith, Annie and Muriel.
Frances was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church and a former member of the North Sydney Senior Citizens and Pensioners Club. She was an avid card and bingo player; she enjoyed a good game of 45s and particularly going to the Sealanes Bingo Hall with her sisters Annie and Dot and her dear friend Helen Perry.
There will be no visitation by request. In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015, in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney with Rev. Ritchie Robinson officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
Online condolences may be sent to www.wjdooley.com.
“Hold on to my hand even when I have gone away from you.”
