John Sylvester MacDonald, 86 of MacGillivray Guest Home, formerly of Inglis Street, passed away Friday, January 30, 2015 at the residence.
Born in New Waterford, he was the son of the late W.J. and Elizabeth (Gillis) MacDonald.
He was a member of Sacred Heart parish, Sydney, the KOC, with whom he supported the Mass For Shut Ins, and was also a member of the Golden K Club. He was a graduate of St. F.X. University in 1949 and was employed in NS and Ontario in education where he was a teacher, administrator and principal. Sylvester was also very active in community affairs.
He is survived by his wife, the former Kay Campbell; son Campbell ‘Cam’, Sydney; he was adored by his two granddaughters Brittani and Cassie, both of Sydney; three sisters Isabel, Noreen, Joan and sister-in-law Gerri Campbell of Sydney along with numerous nieces and nephews. Sylvester was well loved and will be missed by the entire Campbell Family.
He was predeceased by six brothers Duncan, Alex, Ross, Frank, Steve and Gordon in childhood and two sisters Bernice and by Anna May in infancy.
There will be no visitation for the late Mr. MacDonald. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church with Rev. Bill Burke officiating. Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery, Sydney.
Donations may be made the MacGillivray Guest Home or a charity of choice.
Special thanks to the compassionate staff of the MacGillivray Guest Home, who were so kind to Dad and the Golden K Club members for their visits.
