Mary 'Mayzie' Emma Snelgrove, 96, a resident of Harbourstone Enhanced Care, formerly Spruce Haven Drive, Sydney, and longtime resident of Louisbourg, N.S., died on March 27, 2015, at her residence.
Born in Big Lorraine, Cape Breton, Mayzie was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Catherine (Kate) Coveyduc. She was a former member of St. Bartholomew’s Anglican Church, Louisbourg until she moved to Sydney in 1985. She was also a member of LOBA, LTBA and Crystal Chapter in which she held various positions. Former member of the Sydney Pensioners’ Club and Club 55 until her move into Harbourstone.
Mayzie is survived by her sister-in-law, Blanche Coveyduc, of Dartmouth and Evelyn MacKenzie, of Sydney. She is also survived by nieces and nephews, Mayzie (Robert) Hill, Riverview, N.B., Rev. Valerie (Rev. Karman) Hunt, Riverview, N.B., Dolores (Harold) Young, Ottawa, Ont., Daniel (Mary) MacDonald, Dartmouth, Clifford (Linda) Coveyduc, Dartmouth, N.S., Audrey (James) Trider, Dartmouth, N.S., Wayne (Daphne) Coveyduc, Dartmouth, N.S., Wendall (Leanne) Coveyduc, Dartmouth, N.S., Kenneth MacKenzie, Sydney, N.S., and all of their families.
A special thank you to Dr. James MacKillop and the staff at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Mira Bay–Cherie, Henry, Donna and Madonna who were there when she and Abe made Harbourstone their home and to all the other staff members over the years who had charge of their care and treated them both with love and kindness. We offer special thanks to friends of the family, Margie Parsons and her daughter, Lorna Hillier who did so many things, and Iris and Earl Stevens who visited regularly. We appreciated all their concern and caring.
Mayzie was predeceased by her husband, Abram Snelgrove; brothers, James, William and Layton Coveyduc and sister, Violet MacDonald and niece, Dorothy Matthews.
Memorial service will be held at a later date.
