Albert 'Abbie' Victor Oursen

Albert 'Abbie' Victor Oursen

Lieu de naissance : Sydney

Lieu de décès : Bedford NS
Date de décès : 28 mai 2015

It is with profound sorrow that the family of Albert 'Abbie' Oursen, age 86, announce his sudden passing on May 28, 2015 in Bedford, N.S.
The son of the late Victor and Violet Oursen, Abbie was born and raised in the Northend of Sydney.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife Rose, his parents and grandson, Shane Johnston.
Left with fond and loving memories are his children, Cheryl (John) MacSween, Grand Falls-Windsor, Nfld., Debbie Johnston, Sydney, Donna (Alexander) Davis, Bedford, N.S., Darren (Trina) Oursen, Edmonton, Alta.; his brother–in-law, Frank (late Patricia) Balmas, Sydney, as well as his 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Abbie married Rose, the love of his life, on June 14, 1950 and we take comfort that they will be together on what would have been their 65th anniversary. If there was music playing, particularly his big band favourites, you could always count on seeing Abbie dancing the night away with his darling Rose.
Abbie and Rose raised their children among family and friends in Whitney Pier before settling in the Shipyard area of Sydney. He loved taking the girls to visit Nana Mader in Mahone Bay and camping in Ingonish and P.E.I. When Darren came along, they enjoyed many trips to New Hampshire and Florida. Abbie would happily recount the many summer days spent on the beaches of East Bay and Ben Eoin with his family.
Abbie retired in 1989 after a lifelong career at the Sydney Steel Plant. He was a humble, loving man who was always giving of himself. He will be forever remembered for his gentle spirit and sense of humour. Abbie was a devoted and patient husband, father and grandfather – a true family man. He adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and they in turn, adored their “Pa”.
Abbie was a sports enthusiast and spent his younger years playing hockey, football and basketball. An avid bowler, Abbie joined the 400 club on April 30, 1984. He loved playing darts and cherished the friendships established from the many evenings of friendly competition.
Faith was a huge part of Abbie’s life and growing up he was a member of the Sacred Heart parish and later, with his own family, shared much joy as a member of both the St. Mary’s Polish and St. Anthony Daniel parishes.
The family would like to thank friends and neighbors, Mary Coffin and Bill MacIntosh for all they have done for Dad and Mom over the years.
Although we will miss him dearly, his love and smile will be forever remembered in the hearts of his family and friends.
Funeral mass will be held Thursday, June 4, 2015, 11 a.m. at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church, 40 Cabot St., Sydney and all are welcomed to the reception immediately following to celebrate Abbie’s life at Chants Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St. Sydney.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Mary’s Polish Church Rebuild (http://stmaryspolishchurch.ca/) or a charity of ones choice.
