GUNN, JOSHUA PORTER
(1999-2015)
Following a courageous journey through Batten Disease, Joshua Porter Gunn passed on Saturday, July 4, 2015 at his home. Surrounded by his loving family, he ran straight into the arms of Jesus. Josh was born in Saint John, June 3, 1999, loving son of David and Karen (Porter) Gunn and precious grandson of John and Lynn Gunn and George Porter and the late Faith Porter.
Josh was an amazing young man. He viewed his illness, not as a disability, but as a “different-ability”. He was full of energy, laughter and “Josh Jokes”. Josh was not only full of life, but also brought life to others. He was a wish child for the Children’s Wish Foundation raising funds for other children in need and most recently, a charity event called “Jogging for Josh” this past June, where $10,000 was raised for a scholarship in his name. Josh had a natural athletic ability in his earlier years. He played hockey and soccer and golf alongside his brother and best friend Tyler. The sun rose and set on Tyler. He was Tyler’s biggest fan and whatever team he was on, most recently with the Saint John Major Midget Vito’s. Josh was a loyal follower of the Mauraders in the Saint John Slo-Pitch League and became an honorary member, proudly wearing #87. Josh the spit-fire, with the sparkly eyes and infectious personality will be lovingly remembered and never forgotten. Rest peacefully dear Joshy.
Along with his mom and dad, brother Tyler (Jordan Mahaney) and grammies and grampies, Josh will be missed dearly by several aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and friends.
Arrangements entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424) where visitation will be held Wednesday, July 8th from 2 to 8 pm. A service celebrating Josh’s sweet, young, life will take place Thursday, July 9th, 2015 from Forest Hills Baptist Church at 11 am, followed immediately by a time of fellowship and light refreshment. Interment will take place in Greenwood Cemetery.
Due to severe flower allergies and in lieu of flowers, remembrances in memory of Josh made to the Joshua Porter Gunn Bursary Fund at Saint John Community Foundation would be deeply appreciated by the family.
