Martin Gregory ‘Greg’ Chapel passed away July 28, 2015, at Taigh Na Mara, Glace Bay, at the age of 97.
He was beloved husband of 59 years to Carmella (Carmie), nee Foley, loving father of Dorita Chapel of London, Ont., Mary Bayne of Toronto and Michael Chapel of Welland; grandfather of Miriam Foell, Angela Dehetre, Rudy and Teddy (Baltensperger) Black, Kelly Hagerman and Tracy Bayne; great-grandfather of Elizabeth, Patrick, Emily, Adrian, William, Marin, Amy and James, and great-great-grandfather of Kyla, Tyler and Rider.
Born in Sydney, N.S., Greg graduated from Ryerson Technical College, worked with Air Canada in Toronto, for many years as an avionics technician, and he and Carmie retired back to Sydney in 1993. An avid old-timers hockey player, recreational skater, sailor and do-it-yourself builder, he remained in good health and extraordinary physical strength well into his 90s.

The family will receive friends at T. W. Curry Parkview Chapel, 755 George St., Sydney from 7-9 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 2. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 3, at St. Theresa’s Church, St. Peter’s Road, Sydney with Rev. Dennis Lamey officiating, interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
