It is with deep sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Leonard 'Len' Knott, age 83, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2015 at the Northside General Hospital, surrounded by his loving wife and family.
Born in Parsons Harbour, Nfld., on March 2, 1932, Len was the son of the late Albert and Mary (Peters) Knott. Len sailed on the Arthur Cross from Sydney to Newfoundland for many years, then sailed on the lake boats in Ontario. He worked in construction for many years, was a member of 682 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union and later worked at the Heavy Water Plant in Glace Bay. Len was a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney. He was also a member of the Royal Albert Masonic Lodge in North Sydney and the Northern Yacht Club. Len loved being on the water, enjoyed sailing the Bras d’Or lakes on his sailboat and also loved woodworking. Len was a man of few words but there was always a lot of wisdom and humor in what he had to say.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Florence (Petite) Knott; his daughter, Gail (Tim) Dunn, Hinton, Alta.; his son, Paul (Tracey) Knott, Mulgrave; his grandchildren, Hunter, Carlene (Nick) Pratt, Bryce and Danielle. He is also survived by his only surviving sister, Evelyn Shirley, P.E.I., and several nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by Scruffy who kept him amused.
He was predeceased by his brother, Maxwell Knott; his sisters, Hilda Day, Irene Prosser and Emily Pitcher.
Thank you to Dr. John Kirkpatrick for his care over the years and also the nurses on 4West at the Northside General Hospital.
Visitation for Len will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church with Rev. Julio Martin and Rev. Debbie Strickland officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
Memorial donations may be made to St. John the Baptist Anglican Church Fund.
Online condolences may be sent to www.wjdooley.com.
My journey is completed now,
the tide is drifting in,
My vessel moves on gentle waves…
Eternity begins.
