Passed away peacefully at home in the arms of her four devoted children. Predeceased by her husband Thomas Petten (1997); parents Joseph and Vera McKinlay (Shambler); infant grandson Tommy Petten Staples; special brother and friend Douglas and his wife June McKinlay (Tilley); in-laws Senator Raymond and Marjorie Petten, and Senator Wm. Petten; and brothers Sandy and Bob McKinlay. Left to mourn with full hearts and loving memories are her sons Tom (Mariela Sulca) and Dave (Susan Lawlor); daughters Sandra (Rick Olsen) and Alison (Dave Staples, Hfx), her pride and joy, her grandchildren Joe and Alix Reynolds, Alvaro Sulca, Alison Marie and Hayley Petten, and Luke Staples (Hfx); summer grandsons (CRFCVB) Roma Belyakou and Kostya Ogagliev; special nieces Jan Wiseman and Eva Martin; sister-in-law Bernice Petten (Ottawa); many loved nieces, nephews, and cousins in Newfoundland and Scotland; special friends Lorna, Eileen, Nita, Catherine, and Eva who are treasured for their years of valued friendship; as well as all who were touched by Janet's kindness, friendship and generosity over the years. Heartfelt gratitude to family and friends (near and far) who rallied to support us, allowing us to take such good care of our mom and each other. Thank you to Dr. Verge, Dr. Higgins and Heidi Ship for their wonderful care and advice. Resting at Carnell's Funeral Home, 1045 Topsail Road Wednesday, December 2nd, 2015 from 2-4 p.m and 7-9 p.m, and Thursday, December 3rd, 2015 from 2-4 p.m and 7-9 p.m. A service will be held from First United Church in Mount Pearl, Saturday, December 12th, 2015 at 2 p.m, with inurnment to follow in the General Protestant Cemetery, Waterford Bridge Road. By family request, for health reasons, scent-free visitors would be very much appreciated. Thank you! Flowers gratefully accepted, or donations to the Mazol Shriners greatly appreciated.
