It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Mildred B. 'Minnie' Campbell. Mom passed away at the Glace Bay Hospital, Thursday, Feb. 11, 2016 surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Dominion, she was the daughter of the late Peter James and Pauline (Landry) MacDonald, and was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Glace Bay.
Mom was a true homemaker, she loved to bake, cook and share her delicious goodies. She was also a hard worker who took great pride in her home. She enjoyed watching MASH and golf on TV. Her Thursday hair appointments and playing darts at the Shamrock; she will be missed by many. Minnie was always available at a moment’s notice to help others when needed. Mom was diagnosed in June, and through this journey she never complained, she was a source of strength and calm to us all. She was blessed with wonderful family members who were there for her until the end.
Minnie loved her family and was deeply devoted to us all, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. She loved Christmas, the season of giving and she gave with all her heart. She loved to travel to Ontario to visit her sister Moonie, brother Jim, and their families. She loved life even though she suffered great losses; we were blessed to have had her.
Mom had great faith and made countless Novena’s to St. Jude, she would say he never let her down and many weddings were rain free after mom would hang the prayer beads on the clothes line.
Minnie is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Joseph A. 'Wishie' Campbell; daughter Paula (Sean) MacLellan; son Alex; grandchildren Ryan (Angela) and Adam MacLellan, Nancy (Chris) Mac Donald; great-grandchildren William, Daniel and Rebecca-Anne MacLellan, Noah and Riley MacDonald; daughter-in-law Helen Young. She will also be sadly missed by sisters Annabel Jenkins, Katherine McKenzie; brother Malcolm (Cecilia) MacDonald; sisters-in-law Audrey and Annie MacDonald and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her first husband Frank Young; sons James 'Jimmy' at 19 years of age and Bernie at 59 years of age; sisters Helen MacPherson, Florence MacKinnon, Jen Gilbert, Muriel 'Moonie' Burnet; brothers John 'Shunna', Jim and Greg. Mom also shared a very special bond with dad’s sisters Theresa and Dot.
At mom’s request there will be no visitation, cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass, in celebration of Minnie’s life, will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2016, in Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport, with Fr. Daniel Boudreau officiating.
Interment will be at a later date in Calvary Cemetery.
