It is with great sadness that we the family announce the passing of Albert Clamp on April 29, 2016 on his 90th birthday, at the Taigh Na Mara, Glace Bay.
He was born in Kentville on April 29, 1926 to the late Charles Alfred Clamp and Emma Mae (Turbett) Clamp.
He served with the Canadian Armed Forces from 1947-1952 in his early adult years and it was during that time he met his loving wife of 62 years, Bertha Aitken.
After his time in the military, he became well known as a boxer known as Al 'Baldy' Clamp.
They later moved to Cape Breton where he worked for many years at Sydney Steel. He later became a crew member of the John A. MacDonald of the Canadian Coast Guard. He was proud to talk of his adventures including escorting the Manhatten through the North-West Passage on its maiden voyage.
Later, he worked as a chef on the Gypsum boats, traveling to many countries, with stories to tell when he came home.
Albert is survived by sons, Victor and Bruce; daughters, Janet, Linda and Bonnie and one sister, Bertha; 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Bertha (Aitken) Clamp, one son Murray, grandson, Ronnie Boutilier sisters, Florence and Doris; brothers, Bill, Jack, Townsend and Eric.
A special thanks go to the staff of Taigh Na Mara for their special care and patience during his time there.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. on May 28, 2016 at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home.
