ELOISE FRITZ

FRITZ, ELOISE The family of Eloise Fritz celebrates her long and full life, which came to a close on July 6, 2003. She was born Eloise Miles to John Frederick and Maybelle (Pickard) Miles in Yarmouth, NS on July 21, 1906, and was raised in Sydney, NS. Shortly after graduating from Acadia in 1927 and after a brief career as a high school teacher, she married fellow Acadia grad Francis Fritz in September 1929, just before the Great Crash. During their 48 years of marriage they experienced life and adventures in many places, including New York City, Toronto, Hamilton, Ottawa, Montreal, Port Credit, Athens, Jamaica, Barbados, Manila, Kuala Lumpur, Tehran, and Mashhad, Iran. Eloise and Francis retired to Margaree Harbor, Cape Breton, in 1969. She moved to Fredericton in 1985 to be near her son, Howard, with some intervening years in London, Ontario. She continued to travel on her own after the death of her husband in 1977, including trips to China and a fondly remembered bus tour from Fredericton to JR's ranch in Texas. Eloise was predeceased by her husband Francis, her brothers Winston and Harry Miles, sister-in-law Evelyn Miles, niece Mary Miles, and son-in-law George Mitchell. She is survived by a large and loving family, her daughters and sons-in-law Connie and Doug Walkington (Montreal), Maribel and Keith Conover (Mississauga), and Madeleine and Howie Grant (Saskatoon), and son and daughter-inlaw Howard and Jane Fritz (Fredericton). She leaves 16 loving grandchildren and their spouses and partners: Martha Dolan, Ric Walkington, Steven Walkington and Mary Lou Dodd, Sheila Walkington and David Flatt, Lorne and Lynne Mitchell, Colin Conover, Meg and Greg Gentry, Sharry and Mike Hughson, Heidi and Michael Rensing, Mike and Karen Grant, Donna and Mike Roberts, Kellie, Heather, and James Grant, Ken Babich, Kevin Fritz, and Adam Fritz and Joanna Wells. She leaves 21 great grandchildren: Tiffany, Aric, Jamie, Ryan, Cory, Ky, Kate, Laura, Elena, Chloe, Hannah, Michelle, Jennifer, David, Allison, Marly, Haley, Katie, Leah, Claire, and Emily. Eloise was a member of Wilmot United Church. Throughout her life, she always made friends through her local church groups wherever she lived. She died as she lived, a gracious woman, generous of spirit, always interested in others and the world around her. A Memorial Service celebrating her life will be held on Wednesday, July 16, at 2 p.m. at Wilmot United Church. For those interested, donations in her name may be made to CNIB, whose talking books enhanced her quality of life for 18 years. The family would like to express its appreciation and gratitude to the entire staff on 3SW at the DECH for your excellent medical and personal care of Eloise during the 3 weeks she was in your care. Family members from across the country were struck by your warmth and attentiveness.
