GERALD LEROY HICKS

HICKS, GERALD LEROY Gerald Leroy Hicks, age 68, husband of Audrey Lorena (Calhoun) Hicks of Charters Settlement, N.B. went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 19, 2005 at the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital in Halifax, NS after a long battle with cancer. Born in Nova Scotia, he was the son of the late LeRoy and Gwenlillian Hicks. Gerry was a very kind and caring man who will be sadly missed by his loving family and many friends. Gerry could often be found working on his wood lot or with his many friends on different projects. He was fond of his hobby farm where he kept horses. He was especially proud to have raised and trained two sets of Oxen. He was a longtime and active member of the New Maryland United Baptist Church in Nasonworth. Gerry was a cook at the Maritime Ranger School for many years and retired as Component Manager in 1999 after serving for 36 years with a total of 42 years in the food service business. Gerry is survived by his loving wife Audrey, two children, Duane (Carol) Hicks of Charters Settlement, NB and Gerri-Lou Hicks (Hughes) of Fredericton, NB; three grandchildren, Shane (Terri) Hicks of Charters Settlement, Melissa McCallum of Fredericton, NB and Tyler Hicks of Charters Settlement, NB; three great grandchildren, Victoria, Kyle and Jared Hicks; five sisters, Joan (David) Chalmers of Deep Brook, NS, Lynda (Clarence) Wagner of Marshtown, NS, Lorraine (Harry) Weir of Saint John, NB and Elizabeth (Jerry) Robitaille of Windsor, Ontario, and Ginny (Bud) Clark of Amherst, NS and one brother, Donald Hicks (Medora) of Manitoulin Island, Ontario, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; one sister, Phyllis Bertaux; one brother, Roderick Hicks and one brother-in-law, William Bertaux. The family will receive visitors at River Valley Funeral Services, 50 Avonlea Court (off Bishop Drive) on Sunday, May 22nd 2005 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will take place on Monday, May 23rd, 2005 at 2:00 pm at the New Maryland United Baptist Church in Nasonworth with Rev. David Gray officiating assisted by the Rev. Dean Annis. Interment will take place in the adjoining cemetery immediately following the service.
