THOMAS ANDREW On REID

REID, THOMAS ANDREW On Friday, November 20, 2009, Andrew Reid walked pain free through the gates of heaven. Born on December 24, 1971 in Fredericton, NB, he was the son of Thomas and Catherine (Schriver) Reid. In his early years, one of Andrew's greatest pleasures was to drive around the province in search of the perfect windsurfing location. He graduated from FHS in 1989. Andrew went to Ottawa to attend Carleton University, where in 1993 he graduated with a Bachelor of Public Administration coupled in 1995 with a Computer Programmer Diploma from Algonquin College. With a love for travel and skills in systems analysis, Andrew accepted a position at Catapult Systems in Austin, Texas. In 1999-while surfing in San Diego-he suffered a spinal infarction which left him paralyzed from the bellybutton down. Always up for a challenge, in 2001 he became the Canadian National Hand cycling Champion and 2002 recorded the first of two CDs with Champ Covington, I Can't Recall. Andrew wrote a real-time account of his prescription drug problem called Keel Over & Die in 2005, then in 2007 graduated with a Master of Arts in Addiction Counseling from Hazelden Graduate School in Minnesota, followed by a treatise on the human condition titled Addiction: The Antithesis of Spiritual Growth in 2008. In addition to his parents, Andrew is survived by his sister, Heather (Chris) Reid Case of Fredericton, NB; grandparents, Celia and Maynard Schriver of Fredericton, NB; two nephews, Jacob and Sam Morehouse; several aunts, uncles and cousins. Andrew was predeceased by his grandparents, Maureen and Raymond Reid and Mel Schriver.
