IDA PEARL JOHNSON

JOHNSON, IDA PEARL - Ida Pearl Johnson was born on August 4, 1913 to Alfred and Nellie Thorne of Coles Island, NB. Her brothers Calvin and Alfred and younger sister Violet predeceased her. She is survived by her husband Frederick A. Johnson, three daughters Marilynn (Frank) Cassidy, St. Catharines, ON, Carilyn (George) Kelly, Halifax, NS, and Evelyn (Ric) Cuthbertson, Gondola Point, NB, four grandchildren, Shelley Scott, Saint John, NB, Kelley Carter, Kannapolis, NC, Brad Cameron, Charlotte, NC, and Jeff Kelly, Winnipeg, MN, five great-grandchildren, Christine, John and Matthew Cameron, Jacob, Caleb and Seth Earney. A trained hairdresser, Ida enjoyed pampering her customers, friends and family. Several years were spent as a child-care aid at the New Brunswick Protestant Orphans Home in Saint John, NB. Family holiday gatherings found her in the kitchen preparing elegant meals with all the trimmings. She had been trained as a private maid in her teens and loved doing things with excellence. She traveled with her employers at the age of nineteen by boat to Boston and then by car to Atlanta GA, passing through the cotton fields of the Carolinas hearing the pickers singing praises to the Lord. Her later years were spent traveling by trailer with her husband Freddie. They traveled across Canada, the Maritimes, Dallas, Tx, Lancaster, Sc., and Long Lake, ME. The love of the Lord Jesus became an even greater strength and comfort to her as she grew older. She treasured the care she received from her family and her home care workers. Little Ida, who only weighed one pound and one-half at birth became a fighter then and throughout her life. Her legacy: "Love the Lord Jesus with all your heart and have faith that God has a plan for your life and it is for your good." Romans 10:9-10.
