GROUP CAPTAIN DONALD DAVID MacCOUBREY CUNNINGHAM

CUNNINGHAM, GROUP CAPTAIN DONALD DAVID MacCOUBREY - Born September 17, 1913 to Vera Isabelle and John Harris Cunningham in Roundhill, Nova Scotia, Donald's life journey ended in his 91st year on October 13, 2003 in West Vancouver. After graduating in Electrical Engineering (1936) from the University of New Brunswick, Donald's first job was with the New Brunswick Power Commission. Shortly after his marriage to Ruth Lena Crawford, he joined the RCAF in 1941 where his intelligence, organizational abilities and integrity resulted in his numerous promotions to Group Captain. After retiring from the RCAF (1966) he joined the Government of Canada, Department of Supply and Services. An avid duplicate bridge player who enjoyed learning, bridge cruises, travels with his wife and a good game of cribbage. A wonderful, supportive father devoted to his children Leslie (Terry Forbes), David (Janet), Harris (Lynn) and Janice. He encouraged Christian values, the love of reading, an appreciation of poetry and the joys of fishing. Granddad to six grandchildren who will dearly miss their "Mr. Fix-it" and Great Granddad to five who loved to share his candy drawer. Donald was predeceased by his beloved wife Ruth in March 2003, after 64 years in a loving marriage, and by his sister Helen McFarland. His sisters Janet Blackwell of Saint John, N.B. and Jean Oliver of Kamloops, B.C. will miss their only brother who was a loyal, caring friend. The family wishes to thank the staff of Lions Gate Hospital and Doctor Annette McCall for their compassionate care. A service of celebration will be held on Sunday November 9th at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 2200 Benjamin Avenue, Ottawa at 3:00 pm, followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers a donation in Donald's memory may be made to the Canadian Bible Society or to a charity of your choice. Walkey & Company Funeral Directors (604) 738-0006.
