MAUREEN MO-YUEN (HUM) YANG

YANG, MAUREEN MO-YUEN (HUM) - Surrounded by her loving family, Maureen Mo-Yuen (Hum) Yang of Rothesay, New Brunswick, wife of Dr. John T.C. Yang, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 28th, 2006. Born in Hong Kong, she was the daughter of the late Sing-Wing Hum and Big-Liu (Seto) Hum. She immigrated with her family in 1950 to join her father in Halifax, Nova Scotia where she went on to graduate from St. Patrick's High School, earning the Edith Cavell Prize in English Literature. Maureen graduated from the Halifax Infirmary School of Nursing in 1960, and from Mount St. Vincent University in 1961 with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She was the Assistant Director at the Halifax Infirmary School for Nursing Assistants. She then moved to Toronto, Ontario with her family where she quickly developed her career as Head Nurse at the Women's College Hospital in Toronto. But she did not stay long, as she left to marry her sweetheart who had graduated from Dalhousie University Medical School and was starting his career in Saint John, New Brunswick. Maureen had a very full life as a busy mother in Rothesay, supporting the academic, athletic, and artistic pursuits of her 4 children. She also renewed her nursing career as the Clinic Manager, Nurse and Clinical Research Associate at Loch Lomond Medical Clinic. Maureen was a long time member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Rothesay, having served on the Parish Council and taught in the Religious Education program. She found time to be very active in the community and was a charter member of the Kennebecasis Valley University Women's Club, and served as its President. She was also President of the Chinese Cultural Association of Saint John, and on the Board of Directors of the Multicultural Association of Saint John and Festival By-the-Sea. More recently, she found fellowship with the Red Hat ladies and enjoyed Tai-Chi, ballroom dancing and fitness classes. Maureen especially found great joy in loving her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Dr. John T.C. Yang; three daughters, Dr. Heather Yang of Barrie, ON, Dr. Lisa Yang (Brian Sanders) of Quispamsis, NB, Linda Yang Poirier (Dr. Robert Poirier) of Zanesville, Ohio; one son, Stephen Yang (M. Karin Kim) of Cortland, New York; one brother, Joseph Hum (Annie Vyn) of Aurora, ON; six grandchildren, Madeleine, Alexis and Jasmine Yang Sanders; Julianna Yang Poirier; and Christopher and Lily Yang. She is predeceased by a brother, Ying-Kit Tam. Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, Westmorland Rd, Saint John, NB (506-646-2424) with visitation on Friday afternoon, December 1st, 2006 from 2 to 4pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Rothesay, NB on Saturday 12 noon.
