Vaughn Herman Downing 1928 - 2007 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, father, brother, uncle and friend, Vaughn Herman Downing, Jr. 78, of Riverview and Cap Pelé on Sunday, July 8, 2007, with his family at his side. Born October 11, 1928 in Lower Coverdale, he was the son of the late Vaughn Herman Downing, Sr. and Beulah Pearl (Steeves) Downing. Vaughn started at the CN Rail Shops as a Boilermaker Apprentice in 1947 and worked his way up in CN Rail, CN Marine and it's counterpart, Marine Atlantic where he retired as Manager, Plant Development in 1985, after 371/2 years service. Beloved husband and soulmate of 55 years to Doris (Allen) Downing, loving father of Cheryl (Stephen Steeves), Shawn (Lindsay Crossman), and Erin. He cherished his grandchildren Leah Steeves, Brandon Crossman, Matthew and Ethan Downing and loved to make them laugh. Vaughn's first love was his family. He was a thoughtful and considerate man who was always there to encourage us, guide us, and to make us laugh. He was our rock and hero. Vaughn loved to garden and share it's bounty with neighbours, family and friends and even the occasional stranger. He was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He worked hard to provide the best life for his family. Vaughn is survived by his sister, Marion (late Everett Duffy) and many nieces, nephews and friends. Vaughn was predeceased by his parents; sister, Maisie; brother, Burton and sister, Marguerite. No visitiation by personal request. Funeral service will be held at St. George's Anglican Church at 51 Church Street in Moncton, NB, on Thursday, July 12 at 2:00 pm. Reception to follow. Interment at a later date. In Vaughn's memory, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Friends of the Moncton Hospital would be appreciated.
