CORMIER, BENOIT "BEN" - Benoit "Ben" Cormier, 84, of Grand Barachois passed away surrounded by his family at the Dr. Georges L. Dumont Hospital, Moncton on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 following a lengthy illness. Born February 5, 1925 in Haute Aboujagane, he was the son of the late Hugh and Obeline (Cormier) Cormier. Ben will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 54 years, Claudette (Boudreau) Cormier and their two sons, Ronald (Denise) of Robichaud, Daniel of Calgary, AB, his cherished granddaughters, Renée and Chantal, his two sisters, Adeline Caissie (Charles) and Dora Babineau both of Grand Barachois, a special friend Martine Turmel of Grand Barachois and by many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by three brothers: Mélas, Abbé, Aurèle and three sisters: Élizabeth, Anna and Juliette. He was a World War II Veteran with the Royal Canadian Air Force having served in Goose Bay, Montréal and Moncton. Prior to his retirement, he was the owner and operator of Ben Cormier Lathing and Plastering and The Bay Tavern in Shediac. He was a former Councillor with the Town of Shediac, former Director of the N. B. Tavern Association, former member of the Boishébert and Richelieu Club and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 33 in Shediac. Visitation at Frenette Funeral Home Ltd., 396 Main St., Shediac (532-3297) on Friday, from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm and Saturday, from 9:30 am until time of departure 10:40 am. Funeral mass will be held at 11 am on Saturday, January 16, 2009 at St. Henri Roman Catholic Church, Grand Barachois. Interment will be in the parish cemetery in the spring.
