HOLMES – Algernon “Sonny”, late of Shellbrook, passed away March 1, 2010 in Shellbrook at the age of 101 years. Dad was born in Bedford, England and came to Canada with his parents in 1913. His parents homesteaded in Marchant Grove. He started school when they built the Three Creeks School and worked on the farm. Algernon farmed all his life until he retired in 1976 to Shellbrook after Mom passed away. There he married Lillian Stene when he was 80 years old and they had many good years together gardening, playing cards and traveling. Algernon is survived by his first wife Ruth (nee Whitney); second wife Lillian (nee Stene); Dads children Arnold Holmes (Rita) and Louise Holmes; Lillian’s children: Bettie Horan(Bruce); Vivian Wong (Percy); Dale (Verna) Stene; Yvonne Helgason (Gordon); Maryln Herzog ( Lyle); Gail Anderson (Bill) and Ron (Rita) Stene; Algernon was predeceased by his son Ken. The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, March 11, 2010 at 2:00 pm at Knox United Church, Shellbrook, SK with Pastor Dave Whalley officiating. In lieu of tributes memorial donations can be made to Shellbrook & Districts Health Services Project.
