ALMA EASTLEY

Alma E. Eastley (Bird) passed away quietly Tuesday, March 9 at Solace Care Home in Regina at the age of 97. She was born in Radisson, SK in 1912, and lived there until the death of her father in 1922. The family moved to Sarnia, Ontario, where Alma completed high school and then moved to Regina to attend Normal School for her teaching certificate. She began her teaching career in a rural school north of Big River, SK, and continued teaching in various schools in Saskatchewan through the difficult Thirties. When she was teaching in Coronach in 1940, she met and married her husband, Arthur, and together they built a home on the family farm near Glentworth. She retired from teaching in 1971, and she and Art decided to travel during the winter months. Together they went to Portugal and Spain, then Florida, Arizona, Texas, Hawaii, Australia and New Zealand, Victoria, and a Caribbean cruise. They purchased a home in Moose Jaw, and gradually retired from farm life. Alma enjoyed her garden on the farm, and took great delight in visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a very busy social life with many good friends and lively card parties. Nothing was better than getting four people together for a good game of Bridge! Alma was the last member of her generation in her immediate family. She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Arthur, in 1996; her brothers Stuart (Clydie) Bird, Norman (Helen) Bird, her sister, Marian (Harold) McKinlay, and her sister-in-law, Evelyn (Jim) Waddell. She is loved and remembered by her children, Robert (Loretta) Eastley, at the farm near Glentworth, and Marion (John) Lake, in Regina; three grandchildren: Brian (Teresa) Eastley, Linda (Randy) Kutschall, and Janice (Collin) Seebach, and seven great-grandchildren: Sean and Kiera Eastley, Alexa, Robyn and Paige Kutschall, and Erica and Evan Seebach. She is also fondly remembered by her two nieces, Evelyn Bird and Phyllis (Bill) Humphreys and two nephews, Doug (Jean) McKinlay and Jim (Sue) McKinlay and several great-nieces and nephews. The family wish to especially acknowledge the care and thoughtfulness of the owners and staff during her 1 1/2 years at Solace Care Home. The Funeral Service will be held at W.J. Jones & Son Chapel, 106 Athabasca East, Moose Jaw on Saturday, March 13, at 1:30 p.m. Linda Owens will officiate. Interment will take place at Rosedale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends so wish, a donation may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the charity of your choice. In living memory of Alma, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home. Please sign the memorial register at website: www.wjjonesandson.com (Obituaries).
