– In his 79th year, Arnold (Arn) Bishop Smith gently left this world on March 9, 2010 at the Health Science Complex. Born in Flat Islands, Placentia Bay, Arn trained with the army in Camp Picton, practiced as an electrician and worked for many years at the Confederation Building. He lived his adult life in Portugal Cove where he enjoyed walking the bluff. In passing, Arn joined his parents, Art Smith (1975) and Annie (nee Clarke, 1992) and brothers Harvey (1984) and Gordon (1987). Leaving to celebrate his life are his son Rodger and fiancée Kathleen McCuaig and son Zachary; brother David and sister-in-law Eileen; sister, Nina Todd; nephews & nieces, Steven Todd (Darlene), Kim Todd (David Finn), David (Elizabeth Murphy) and Geoffrey Smith; grand-nephews and nieces: Morgan Todd, Kate Finn, Owen Finn, Lucy Finn, Andrew Smith and Isabelle Smith. Thanks are extended to Father Garry Parsons as well as the staff of 4 South A, Health Sciences. Following cremation, visitation will take place at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and on Friday from 10-12, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will take place on Saturday, March 13, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. from St. Lawrence Anglican Church, Portugal Cove following which Arm will be interred in the Anglican Cemetery, Kenmount Road.
