HICKEY, Patrick – (1923-2010). Passed peacefully away at the Agnes Pratt Nursing Home, St. John’s, Patrick Edward Hickey in his 86th year. Patrick was born April 23, 1923 in Bar Haven and moved to Mt. Arlington Heights, Long Harbour in 1952 following his marriage to his loving wife of 58 years, Elizabeth (Nolan). In 2001 Patrick & Elizabeth left their home in Long Harbour and moved to St. John’s. Patrick was a retired employee of CN Marine, who never lost his love for the ocean. As well as a loving husband to Elizabeth, he was also her best friend. Patrick was a loving and devoted father to his children Graham, Lena Sutton (Bob), Margaret, Alan (Ramona), James (Evelyn), Patrick Jr. (Jane), Douglas (Carolyn) and Mary (deceased). He was a special grandfather and great-grandfather who adored his grandchildren Paul, Mila, Laura, Stephanie, Daniel, Kayla, Jonathan and Sean and great-grandchildren Jordan and Brett. Leaving behind with fond memories are close friend and brother-in-law Anthony Nolan, sisters-in-law Dorann Murphy, Margaret Sanford (Welford), Laura Nolan, Annie Nolan and nephew Charlie Hickey of Southern Harbour and many other nieces and nephews. Patrick will be remembered by many friends in Long Harbour and St. John's, especially Lucie and Yvonne Besso and the many friends in Empire Village Senior Living. Visitation at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Rd., St. John’s, on Sunday, March 14 and Monday, March 15 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Teresa's Catholic Church, Mundy Pond Road, Tuesday, March 16 at 11:00 a.m. Cremation to follow. Interment to follow at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Long Harbour at a later date. The family expresses a sincere thank you to the many friends and neighbours who showed support and kindness to Patrick over the many years with his health issues. A special thank you to the staff at Agnes Pratt Nursing Home for the care given to Patrick over the last year and the support given to our family and especially their team on the Stella Burry wing. In lieu of flowers, donations in Patrick's memory can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
