With great sadness, the family of Edmee M. Melanson, 98, of Joggins, announce her peaceful passing on Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre.
Born in St. Andre, NB, in 1911, she was a daughter of the late Valentine & Marie Rose (Melanson) Richard.
She moved to Joggins in 1942 with her loving husband Alexandre to raise her family while he worked in the coal mines. Edmee loved spending time baking bread and knitting socks. Edmee was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church and the C.W.L. She was a member of the Joggins Fire Department Ladies Aux.
She will be sadly missed by her only daughter, Florence Burns of Strathcona, NS; sons, Alfred "Fred" (Pat) of Miramichi, NB, Francis (Loretta), Ovila (Gloria), and Donald, all of Joggins; eleven grandchildren and twenty two great grandchildren.
The last surviving member of the Richard family, she was predeceased by her husband, Alexandre; grandson Robert Melanson, twin grandchildren Joseph and Mary; sisters Annie LeBlanc, Dahlia Gogan, Lena LeBlanc, and Lumina; brothers, Fabian, Ovila, Alyre, Maurice, and Dosithe.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Furlong~Jones Funeral Home where visiting hours will take place on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral Mass will be held from St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church on Friday, March 19, 2010 at 11 am, Father David MacDonald officiating. Burial will take place in the St. Therese d'Villa Cemetery later in the spring.
