WESTVILLE - George Alexander Brimicombe, age 91, Hoyt Street, Westville, passed away Saturday, April 3, 2010, at his home.
Born July 8, 1918, at Admiral Rock, Hants Co., he was a son of the late Fred and Jennie (Caddell) Brimicombe.
He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving in Italy, Belgium, and Holland, with the West Novas.
Prior to going overseas, as a Sergeant, he trained recruits at Aldershot. After the war, he worked at the Nova Scotia Power Corp. for over 30 years until retirement.
George was an elder at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Westville; past-president of the Overseas War Veterans Assoc.; past-treasurer of Scotia Lodge #11 I.O.O.F.; and past-treasurer of I.B.E.W.
He loved being at his cottage, working in his garden, wood carving, and walking "his rounds".
George was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 63 years, Lily (Grist); children: Gina McCulloch (Dave Lundie), Shubenacadie; Cheryl (Gary) Ward, Little Harbour; Donna (Bill) Scott, Trenton; Dave (Jolene), Mt. William; Sandra (Mike) McCulloch, Springville; Eric (Maureen), Trenton; Alice (Harold) MacKay, Trenton; Peter, at home; Alta (Tom) Owen, New Glasgow; Ray (Suzanne Degaust), Halifax; 18 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by sisters and brothers: Ruth (Lloyd) Prouse, Ont.; Vince (Joan), B.C.; Pearle Cameron, Urbania; and Walter, Stellarton.
He was predeceased by brother, Bob; sisters, Dot Pineo and Margaret Buell; a brother in infancy; and an infant grandson, Jacob.
Visitations will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. The Overseas War Veterans Assoc. will conduct a service 6:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
His funeral service will be held 2 o'clock Tuesday from St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Westville with Rev. Dr. Norman Marple officiating. Burial will be in Auburn Cemetery.
Family flowers only. Donations in his memory may be made to St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society, or the V.O.N.
