William \'Reg\' King

Born In: Whitney Pier, Nova Scotia, Canada

Passed in: London, Ontario, Canada
Passed on: April 13th, 2009

Reg King, a former resident of Taylor Street, Whitney Pier, died in London, Ont. on Monday, April 13, 2009 at the age of 57. The long, slow progression of his illness has finally broken its hold on him.
Born and raised in the Pier, he was the son of the late Harold and Mary Christena (Gillis) King.
Reg was a graduate of Kings University. He was a math specialist teaching first in Nova Scotia before accepting a position with the Catholic School Board in London, Ont. He spent his early years at the Gaelic College where he became an accomplished piper before joining the 2nd Battalion of the N.S. Highlanders. He played with several pipe bands including the London Police Pipe Band and competed in piping competitions throughout Ontario.
Reg is survived by his wife, the former Liz Welsh, stepson Tim Ondrasek of London, Ontario. Also surviving are five brothers, Harold (Shelley), Bob (Elizabeth), both of London, Ont., Bernie, Joseph (Shirley), both of Dartmouth and Paul, Innerkip, Ont.; three sisters, Margie King, Glace Bay, Joan Ouellette, McLennan, Alta., Patricia (Bernie) Steele, Sydney and by many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by stepson, Andrew Ondrasek (2008).
The disease stole Reg’s love of solving challenging math problems and his ability to play his beloved bagpipes, but it could never take his gentle way or his sense of humour.
Cremation has taken place. The funeral mass celebrating his life will take place on Friday, May 1, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Church, Whitney Pier with Fr. Errol MacDonald officiating. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery.
