Aubrey Hœg

Hœg, Aubrey Vaughan, 87, of Amherst, formerly of Maccan, passed away on Monday, April 5, 2010 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, after a brief illness.
Born in Maccan, he was a son of the late Earle and Lula (Boyd) Hœg.
Aubrey served overseas in World War II with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles, fighting in France, Belgium, Germany and Holland. After the war he returned to work at and eventually to own Hœg's Grocery in Maccan. Aubrey was a devoted Life Member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 14 River Hebert, receiving the Meritorious Service Medal and Palm Leaf (the highest honour a Legion Member can receive). An avid sportsman throughout his life, he excelled in baseball and hockey and enjoyed hunting, fishing, curling and darts. He was a long time member of the Amherst and Brookside Curling Club, River Hebert. He was a deacon, trustee and choir member of the Maccan United Baptist Church.
Aubrey will be sadly missed by children, Earl, Maccan, Sandra (Roger), Amherst Shore, Eric (Deborah), Richmond, ON, Robert (Heather) and Ronald (Betty Anne), both of River Hebert, Susan, Amherst and Cathy (Carson), Maccan; 13 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren and a sister, Frances Harrison, Amherst, numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Areatha (Elliott); a sister, Phyllis Gillespie; grandson, Stuart Hœg and granddaughter, Stacey Hœg.
Aubrey's remains have been cremated under the direction of the Furlong Jones Funeral Home, Amherst (667-8777). Memorial service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, April 8, 2010 at 1 pm, Rev. Clarence Clarke officiating, reception to follow at the River Hebert Legion. Burial in the Maccan United Baptist Church Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to a time of visitation at the funeral home on Wednesday from 7 to 9 pm. Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 14 River Hebert will hold a memorial tribute service Wednesday at 6:30 pm. In lieu of flowers donations to Maccan United Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 14 River Hebert, or a charity of the donor's choice gratefully appreciated. www.furlongjones.ca
