ATHOL, NS With great sadness the family of Anne Pugsley, age 75, of Athol, widow of Stewart Pugsley, announce her peaceful passing at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Amherst, on Sunday, April 4, 2010.
Born in Amherst, she was a daughter of the late Sydney and Floretta (Embree) Crowe.
A school teacher, she accepted her first teaching position at West Brook, NS at the age of 16 prior to attending Normal School. Anne taught for 39 years in various communities in Cumberland Co. which included, Athol, Southampton, River Hebert and Amherst. Following her teaching career she was elected as school board member for her area. Originally a member of the Athol United Church, she transferred to Southampton upon its closure where she held the position of Treasurer for many years as well as being active in the Athol and Southampton UCW's.
A devoted mother and passionate grandma her family was her life and Anne (Nan) will be sadly missed by her children, Todd (Monique Dube) and Melissa (Patrick) Gauthier; 3 grandchildren, Emily Anne, Thomas Stewart and Beatrice Suz-Anne; a sister, Joan Gilbert and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom cherished Nan for the generous and kind aunt she was. She was predeceased by her husband, Stewart in 1984, infant son Charles Arthur in 1964 and sister, Ruth Gilbert.
Anne's remains have been cremated under the care of the Furlong Jones Funeral Home (902-667-8777), Amherst from where a memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April, 7, 2010 at 11 am, Rev. Alan Griffin officiating. Reception at the funeral home to follow. No visitation by request. In lieu of flowers, donations to Palliative Care or to the Southampton United Church.
