Maurice Francis (Moe McNeil) MacNeil, Oromocto, NB passed away at the Everett Chalmers Hospital, Fredericton NB, on May 3, 2010, in his 87th year. Born in Glace Bay, NS on July 21, 1923, he was the son of John (Jack) and Thecla Eloise (Pitts) MacNeil. Following graduation from Saint Anne's High School, Glace Bay, he joined the Royal Canadian Army in 1942. He served until 1946 and subsequent to studies at Dalhousie University, he re-enlisted in 1950 and received his commission. Following postings in Newfoundland, Aldershot, CFB Halifax, CFB Borden and Fort Churchill, he was attached to the Canadian Embassy and served in Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and Hong Kong in 1959 and 1960. Subsequent postings included CFB Halifax, Whitehorse and CFB Gagetown where he retired in 1971 with rank of Captain in The Royal Canadian Army Service Corps. Following retirement from the army he was employed with Riverview Lincoln Mercury and York Steel Limited, Fredericton, NB. Moe is survived by his devoted wife of 12 years, Ernestine B. (Agnew); brothers John C. MacNeil, London, ON, and John Bosco MacNeil, Glace Bay, NS; sisters Claire Esther MacNeil, and Mary Anne (Douglas) MacInnis, Glace Bay, NS; daughters Elizabeth Ann (Doug) Skinner, Dartmouth, NS; Patricia Lynn (Reg) Porter, Moncton, NB; son Donald F. (Bonnie) MacNeil, Durham Bridge, NB; daughter Susan Maureen (John) Kersten; Mississauga, ON; and son John Michael (Carol Lee) McNeil, Fredericton Junction, NB; step-son, Ron (Stacey) Smith, and step-daughter Nicole (Kris) Jordan, Rothesay; grandchildren Edward (Ted) (Deena) Skinner, Jane (Darius) Rudolph, Steven Skinner, Scott (Megan) Porter, Jeffrey (Karen) Porter, Andrew MacNeil, Katie MacNeil, Meghan McNeil, Laura McNeil and Benjamin McNeil; step-grandchildren Brayden Mills, Colby Smith, McKenzie Jordan and Hailey Jordan; great-grandchildren Keith Rudolph, Beth Skinner, Sarah Skinner, Ava Porter, and Jax Porter; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his former wife of 44 years, Suzie Amelia (Burgess), Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, brothers Joseph John (Joe), Ninian Michael, Angus John (A.J.), James Albert (Jimmy), sisters Elizabeth Ann (Betty), Mary Florence (Francis) O'Neil. Moe will be sadly missed by many who enjoyed his kind and generous ways and love of family.
By family request there will be no visitation. Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, May 6 at St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church, Oromocto. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes in Moe's honor may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. Interment will take place later as a private family ceremony.
