MURRAY WILLIAM GEORGE HUNCHUK
Murray was born December 24, 1936 in Moose Jaw, SK and peacefully passed away April 27, 2010 at the Wascana Rehabilitation Centre, Regina, where he resided for the past 15 years. Predeceased by his father John Hunchuk and in-laws, Patricia and Tom Glats; Murray is survived his loving wife of 54 years, Katherine Hunchuk (Zaparinuk); children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren: son, Dr. Allan (Kimberly) Hunchuk, Zachary and Nickolas, Sharon of PA, U.S.A.; daughter, Gaye (Glen) Maier of Regina, Adam (Jennifer) and Ryan and Ava of Inuvik, NT, Peter (Hilary) and Owen and Addison of Regina, Matthew (Trina) of Tofino, B.C. Murray is also survived by his mother, Marj Hunchuk of Moose Jaw; brother Grant (Elaine) Hunchuk of Parksville, BC; sister Jae Sherris of Regina; Uncle Mickey Hunchuk; Auntie Florence Hunchuk, Auntie Mary and Uncle Doug Craik, all of Moose Jaw, SK; brothers-in-law, Dr. John (Eleanor) Zaparinuk of Victoria, BC and Bill (Maureen) Zaparinuk of Moose Jaw, SK; numerous nieces and nephews; and honorary granddaughter, Lisa Grushenko of Regina. Murray worked at SaskTel for 36 ½ years. He was very active in the church - serving as Kirk of Session for 17 years. He was also an avid swimmer, being involved with both the Red Cross and Royal Life Saving Society, where he was president for 7 years. He was Chief Instructor for the handicapped swim for 30 years. He was a member of the Wascana Toast Master's Club. He served as a Justice of the Peace and Marriage Commissioner for many years. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed travel and had an array of wonderful friends. He was also a huge Rider fan. Memorial service will be held Saturday, May 8, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Regina, SK with Rev. Bob Wilson officiating. A private interment will be held at a later date. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations in memory of Murray, may be sent to First Presbyterian Church, 2170 Albert Street, Regina, SK, S4P 2T9.
