Irénée Mallais, 95, of Moncton, passed away on Thursday May 27, 2010 in Shediac surrounded by his loving family along with two of his many devoted care-givers, Myra Tabares and Maria LeBlanc. Born on November 5, 1914 in Sheila, NB, he was the son of the late Firmin and Séraphie (Landry) Mallet. Irénée was a teacher for 32 years, 28 of which at l'École Beauséjour, book-keeper for Deluxe French Fries for approximately 10 years, founding member of la Caisse populaire de Tracadie, member on the board of directors of la Caisse populaire l'Assomption, treasurer, organizer and monitor for the Beauséjour Choir during the international competitions in Europe, member of SERFNB (retired francophone teachers), past treasurer for the Société historique Nicholas-Denys and the Comité diocésain des Missions étrangères, member of the Beauséjour Curling Club, member of the Christ-Roi Golden Age Club, 4th degree member with the Knights of Columbus, devoted spectator of the Club de Hockey des Aigles Bleus since 1964 as well as a reader at the Christ-Roi R.C. parish. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Georgina (Ferguson); six children: Nicole Gagnon (Claude) and Gérard (Corinne), both of Moncton; Father Jean-Bernard of Cocagne; Rollande Pouliot (Jean) of Carignan, QC, Cécile Mallais (Denis Losier) of Cap-Pelé and Monique Imbeault (Bernard) of Shédiac; 14 grandchildren: Marc Gagnon (Solange), Madeleine Gagnon, Stéphanie Pouliot (Stéphane), Karoline Pouliot (Mario Testasecca), Charles-André Pouliot, Joshua Guitard, Jessica Guitard, Andrée-Pascale Losier, Inouk Imbeault (Amber), Nisk Imbeault (David), Elki Imbeault (Nadia), Iris Imbeault (Alfred), Samuel Imbeault and Jacob Imbeault; eight great grandchildren: Myriam Gagnon, Jérémie Gagnon, Audrey Gagnon, Benjamin Imbeault, Mattéo Imbeault, Léora Imbeault, Sébastiano Pouliot-Testasecca and Sophie Pouliot-Testasecca; one sister: Sr. Cécile Mallais of St-Basile, NB; one brother-in-law: Dr. Peter Ferguson (Madeline) of Dartmouth, NS; three sisters-in-law: Bernadette Breau (late Césaire) and Stella Ferguson (late Aurèle), both of Tracadie-Sheila, NB and Jeanne d'Arc Arseneau of Moncton, NB, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters: Yvonne and Geneviève, as well as eight brothers: Adélard, Valaire, Alphonse, Félix, Roméo, Émile, Zoël and Rhéal. The family wishes to specially thank Dr. Thomas Laughlin, his family doctor, and Dr. Guy LeBlanc, his urologist, who went the extra mile for him. We also wish to acknowledge the personnel at the Moncton City Hospital who saw to his needs during the last 6 years while hospitalized, as well as to Extra-Mural Services (Blanche Bourgeois and Shediac), who provided excellent care. Due to circumstances beyond the family's control, visitation will be held at Frenette's Funeral Home, 88 Church Street, Moncton on Wednesday June 16 from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday June 17 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Assumption Cathedral on Friday June 18, 2010 at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Our Lady of Calvary cemetery, Dieppe.
