Passed on: May 12th, 2010

George Stephen Day died from a heart attack late May 12, 2010 at his home in Kingston, Ontario. Born in Liverpool, Nova Scotia, July 27, 1944, he was the son of G. Cecil Day, former editor and publisher of the Liverpool Advance and Elizabeth Harlow Day. After graduating from Acadia University in Wolfville, NS with a BEd degree, he taught for a few years in Nova Scotia then moved to Niagara Falls, ON, where he taught for several years. He then joined the Canadian military civilian teaching staff at Base Borden, in Barrie ON, from which he retired in the late 90's and moved to Kingston. First he taught English to French cadets, using his unique teaching style and methods. When that program was changed, he taught top foreign military officials from overseas so they could speak English at NATO, etc. Always, it seemed, he charmed his students. A great raconteur, Stephen also loved cars, trucks, dogs, horses, cats, and military band music. Predeceased by his parents; he is survived by his sister Beverley Burlock, Port Mouton, NS; nephew Andrew Burlock (Kingston, ON); niece Shulamit Berlevtov; nephew Martin and grand niece Persia, all of Ottawa; and his aunt Laura Baker (Wallie) of Florida. He will be buried with his parents in Trinity Anglican Cemetery in Liverpool, NS.
