With dignity, Gordon MacEachern passed away at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital on Sunday, May 30, 2010, age 75 years.
He was born in Bonshaw, P.E.I., son of the late John Angus and Elsie Mae (MacKay) MacEachern of Appin Road.
Gordon leaves behind his loving wife, Antje Doris (Voss) MacEachern, Desable, P.E.I.; beloved father of Kimberly Ann MacEachern (Joseph Turner), Pickering, Ontario; Michael Gordon MacEachern (Lynn Suitlas), Denver, Colorado; Pamela Joan MacEachern, Ottawa, Ontario; and Susan Ann (Alan) Phillips, St.Catharines, Ontario. Loving stepfather of Clifford John Quain (Victoria Turner), Ottawa, Ontario; Kevin Uwe Quain (Lisa Gaasenbeek), Toronto, Ontario; and Garner Richard Quain (Megan MacQuarrie), Toronto, Ontario.
Gordon enjoyed and adored his grandchildren: MacKenzie "Kenzie" Quain, Haylee Quain, Jacob Turner, Samantha Turner, Matthew Turner, and Olivia Quain, and spent many hours with them on the beach in P.E.I.
He is survived by sisters, Ena Worth, Charlotte (Alan) McLeod, Marion Ann "Nan" (John) Thompson; brothers, Kay MacEachern, Paul (Judy) MacEachern; sisters-in-law, Evelyn MacEachern, Claudette MacEachern, Lilli (Michael) Holland, Julie (Mark) Pilon; and brothers-in-law, Uwe (Trudel) Voss, Wolfgang (Ushie) Voss; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his sister, Dawn MacEachern; brothers, Judson MacEachern and Reigh MacEachern; brothers-in-law, Gordon Worth and Gary Ford; and sister-in-law, Shirley MacEachern.
Gordon was a graduate of McGill University (Macdonald College, B.S.), Montreal and Purdue University (M.S. Economics), Indiana. He had earlier attended Mount Allison Academy and University, Sackville, N.B.
Gordon had a long career in Canadian and International Agriculture, as a professor (MacDonald College, Montreal; Purdue, Indiana), consultant (Agricultural Economic Research Council; World Potato Congress), and with Agriculture Canada and the Departments of Agriculture of British Columbia and Prince Edward Island.
Following retirement from the Department of Agriculture, Prince Edward Island, he was a consultant and traveling professor in Thailand, El Salvador, Guyana, Bangladesh (North South University), and Macau (Macau University of Science and Technology).
An enthusiastic sportsman, Gordon played football (MacDonald College), hockey (MacDonald College, Prince George Mohawks), golfed, and skied.
Gordon loved to travel and enjoyed the time he spent in British Columbia, China, Austria, and Florida.
Private family visitation and memorial service from the Dawson Funeral Home, Crapaud.
In lieu of flowers, if so desired, memorial donations may be made to the QEH Foundation (Stroke Care Unit).
The family would like to acknowledge the excellent care Gordon received from the nursing staff in Units 7 and 8 at the QEH.
