It is with heartfelt sadness that we regret to announce the passing of our loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, Henry King who passed away Wednesday, June 2, 2010, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Bras d'Or on March 29, 1932, he was the son of the late Thomas Alfred King and Eva Maude (Tobin) King.
Henry is survived by his loving wife, Sarah (Blackie), of 48 years; his daughters, Eva (Jacob Reid), Mary (Claude McNeil); sons, Thomas (Laura Burgess) and Michael (Laura Chaulk). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Michael Reid, Jacob Reid, Samantha Reid, Connor McNeil, Caroline King and Raleigh King. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his only sister, Hilda, brothers, Thomas, Alex, Michael and Robert.
Henry was a loving father to his children and grandchildren. Better known to all as Handsome Henry especially by the little ones.
He was a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 83 in Florence. A veteran, Henry served overseas in the Korean War.
Visitation for Henry King will be held Friday, June 4 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines. A funeral mass to celebrate his life will be held Saturday, June 5 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, Bras d'Or, with Fr. Peter McLeod officiating. Burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery, Bras d'Or.
He is gone but will never be forgotten.
A special thank you to the staff and nurses of the ICU at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital who recognized him as King Henry. Also his family doctor Charles Coish whom he liked very much.
