The death of John Marshall (Jack) Fowler, formerly of Moncton, occurred at his residence in Ottawa on Saturday, May 29, 2010 surrounded by the love of his family. He was born in Scotland on June 15, 1922 to the late David and Jane (Walker) Fowler. Jack was the former manager of B. E. Smith Furniture. He proudly served with the Royal Canadian Engineers 7th Field Co. Army in England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany and was discharged from 5th Battalion Combat Engineers-Canadian Pacific Forces at the end of the Pacific War in 1945. Jack was of five brothers to serve in active armed forces during WWII. He attended Mount Royal United Church and was former Past Noble Grand Acacia Lodge No. 116 IOOF in Sunny Brae. He volunteered with the former Sunny Brae Fire Dept. and was a past member of the Canadian Red Cross.
Married to Joyce (Bishop) of Lewisville, they had four children, Lois (Peter) Fenety of St. Andrews, Debbie (Brent) McAllister of Ottawa, Douglas (Karen) Fowler of Windsor, Ontario and Susan Young of Halifax. Besides his loving wife Joyce, Jack is survived by his children and grandchildren; David Fenety (Joyce Thompson) and Steven Fenety (Nieva Palmer) of St. Andrews, Chelsy (Shaun) McAllister, and Tara McAllister (Stephen Pollock) of Ottawa, Gary Fowler and Jill Fowler (Robbie Bradacs) of Windsor and Emily Young of Halifax. Also survived by great-grandchildren Lauren, daughter of Dave and Joyce, Brycen and Ainsley, children of Steve and Nieva and Riley, daughter of Chelsy and Shaun.
Besides his parents Jack was predeceased by his sisters Margaret Hunter, Christine Fowler, Nancy McCleary, Jean Saunders, Jennie Fowler and brothers David, Alex, Bill, George and Henry. Jack is also survived by several nieces and nephews, as well as sisters-in-law Evelyn Fowler and Violet Bishop and brother-in-law William McCleary. A memorial service was held in Ottawa on Sunday, May 30th for family and friends. A memorial and interment service will be held in Moncton at Fair Haven Memorial Gardens, Salisbury Rd, at a time and date to be announced. For those who wish memorial donations to the Salvation Army Grace Manor, 1156 Wellington Street, Ottawa, the Friends of the Moncton Hospital, the Canadian Diabetes Society or a memorial of the donors choice would be appreciated by the family.
