Gamble, Frederick Leroy (1932-2010) - 77

Surrounded by loving family, Fred Gamble peacefully passed away at his home in Londonderry on June 10th, 2010 after an earnest battle with cancer. He is remembered for his playfulness, his wit, his musicality, and his deep devotion to family and community. During his life, family and friends have enjoyed his natural fiddling talent and his ability to make every individual feel special in some way. His family has always been proud of his leadership roles in community projects; he was a founding member of the Londonderry Athletic Association, and in recent years, has played a generous role in the maintenance and upkeep of the Acadia United Church and the Londonderry Community Centre.

His career began in Goose Bay, Labrador employed by the Department of Transportation, an experience which earned him lifelong friendships and a strong work ethic. Moving back to Nova Scotia, he then enjoyed his job operating heavy equipment for R.K. Chapel. His knowledge and charisma led him to a career in heavy equipment sales for LaHave Equipment from which he retired in 1996.

He is predeceased by his parents Greta Lydia Rushton (Westchester) and David Hamilton Gamble (Londonderry), his brothers Carl (Debert) and Ronald (Brookfield), his sisters Doris Whynot (Bridgewater), Helen Scott (Sutherland's Lake), and infant sister Hazel. He is survived by his loving wife Rose (McLeod) Gamble, brother Darrell (Pictou), his eight children, Debbie Fulton (Gerry Richard) (Bass River), Dennis (Betty) (Folly Mountain), Barbie (Bobby) McNutt (Londonderry), Clay (Joanne) (Lornevale), Fonda (John) Smyth (Truro), Sandra (Stephen) Gamblin (Saint John, NB), Glenn (Brampton, ONT), and Nicole (Dale) Hart (Truro), fifteen grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, one great great grandson, and numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be no funeral service; a family graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Cemetery in Londonderry on Sunday. June 13th, with an open reception to follow from 2:30 -4:00 p.m. at the Londonderry Community Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hillcrest Cemetery in Londonderry or to a charity of your choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Mattatall~Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro.
