Alexander 'Sonny' J. Forrest

Born In: Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia, Canada

Passed in: Antigonish, Nova Scotia, Canada
Passed on: June 29th, 2010

It is with saddened hearts, we the family announce the passing of Alexander 'Sonny' Joseph Forrest on June 27, 2010.
Born in Sydney Mines, he was the eldest son of the late Edward and Annie (Young) Forrest. He moved to Ontario in his early years only to return and eventually retire in Antigonish.
Sonny, as he was called by family and friends, was a proud man who amazed most people by his good health and unlimited energy right up until the last few months of his life. To say he was a sport enthusiast would be an understatement. He was usually able to accurately predict the winner of a game, except of course, in the case of his beloved Montreal Canadiens. Most who knew him knew that he enjoyed life and loved to visit and catch up. He would never have wanted us to feel sad for him, as he believed that he lived a full life and was fortunate to have found love twice.
He is survived by his partner of 15 years, Marie Gale; his son, Wayne, Truro; daughters, Maureen, Sydney, and Deborah (Graham), West Bay; granddaughter, Jenna, Toronto; sisters, Joan Campbell and Eileen Morrison, Sydney Mines, Bernadette Marsh, Mill Creek, Linda (Alfie) Scott, Sydney Mines; sister-in-law, Mae, Sydney Mines; brothers, Russell (Audrey), Antigonish, Lloyd (Millie), Sydney Mines, Donnie, (Beryl), Mill Creek, Melvin (Rosena), Blacketts Lake, and Kevin, Millville. He will also be missed by his many nieces and nephews, as well as by his extended family, Cathy (Allan) Campbell and their daughter, Alexandra of George's River, Rosina (Shawn) Thompson and their two children, Kaitlyn and Connor, Oakville, Ont., and Paul (Shannon) Gale and their son, Lawrence, Red Deer, Alta.
He was predeceased by his loving wife, Marcella, his brother, Edward, and his brothers-in-law, Lawrence Marsh, Hector Campbell and Jimmy Morrison.
Cremation has taken place, at Sonny's request. There will be a memorial service Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew's Church, St. Andrews, with Rev. Charles Cameron presiding. A second service will be held at St. Pius Church, Sydney Mines, on Friday at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of your choice appreciated.
Funeral arrangements are under the care of the C.L. Curry Funeral Home, Antigonish.
