It is with sadness that the family of Ardath MacLeod Black age 100 announce her passing at Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow on Thursday, July 1, 2010. Her nieces Ardath Rankin and Mary K. MacKinnon were with her when she took her journey "home." Born in Thorburn, on September 23, 1909, she was the first child of Mary Kate (MacKinnon) and George R. MacLeod. She left home to study nursing at McLean Hospital, in Belmont MA, USA. There she met her husband Landsford F. Black and they began their life together in Lansing, Michigan. Later they moved to Billerica, MA and from there to Los Angles, CA , Kelona BC and retired to Thorburn in the spring of 1977.

Ardath is survived by sister, Eileen (Duke) Johnson, Markham ON. She was pre-deceased by husband Landsford, and brothers D. Stuart MacLeod, Sydney, NS, G. Alden MacLeod of Calgary, AB, and sister Leslie MacLellan of Thorburn. She is survived by nine nieces and nephews and numerous grand nieces and nephews.

Always a lady she enjoyed children, nursing, church work, seniors groups, knitting, reading, crewel work, baking and preserving. She had a keen sense of humour, was an immaculate homemaker a gracious hostess and had many friends wherever they lived.

The family will receive her Glen Haven Manor "family" at the Angus Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 7, 2010 from 1:00 to 1:30. The remaining time will be for family only, by her request. Her committal service will be held in the Thorburn Cemetery at 3:00 pm. with the Rev. Charles MacPherson presiding. Immediately following her family will host a reception at Union Presbyterian Church, Thorburn, Donations can be made to the charity of choice.
