It is with deep regret we announce the passing of our loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Winnie MacLeod, on Friday, July 2, 2010, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Sydney Mines, Winnie was the daughter of the late Fred and Elizabeth (Robertson) Roper.
She was a member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, and served as a Ladies Aid member for many years. Winnie was well known for her quilting talents.
She is survived by her sons, Lloyd (Phyllis) MacLeod, George's River, and Jack (Anne), New Glasgow; grandsons, Curtis, Justin and Jonathan MacLeod and Wayne Parsons; granddaughters, Kathryne MacLeod and Helen Sparling. She is also survived by six great-granddaughters, Jaidyn, Miah, Ava, Kenzie Rae, Brooke and Megan; one great-grandson, Zach; a sister, Margaret Holton, Sydney Mines; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Winnie was predeceased by her loving husband of 60 years, Gordon MacLeod, brothers, David and Robert, and sisters, Mary Bennett and Edith Stuparick.
Winnie's family would like to extend a special "thank you" to Dr. Michel McKeough, the palliative care staff, and the staff at the Northside General Hospital.
There will be no visitation. A funeral service celebrating her life will be held on Wednesday, July 7, 2010, at 2 p.m. in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Sydney Mines, with Rev. Marion Barclay MacKay officiating. A reception will be held in the church hall, following the service. The committal will be in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Winnie's memory may be made to St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, or the Northside General Hospital Foundation.
