Irene (Snookie) Gorman passed gently away on July 19, 2010 at the Miramichi Regional Hospital. She was born on September 24, 1917 in Quarryville Miramichi, NB., she was the daughter of Noonan J. Maher and Theresa (Holt) Maher. She and Dad, the late Wilfred Gorman (2006) were married for 59 years and had three children, Bev (Bob) Constable from Fredericton, Trudy Walsh and Noonan Gorman both of the Miramichi and Three grandchildren Natalie (Dan) Bradford, Steven Constable (special friend Iris) and Sebrina (Glen) Vautour and five great-grandchildren, Alexander Wood and Skylar Constable from Fredericton and Justin Adair, Amber and Ria Vautour from Miramichi and a deceased infant great-granddaughter Gabrylle Constable. Mom was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Her deceased sibilings and their spouses were Doris (Leonard) Anthes from Halifax and later Moncton/ Riverview, Frank Maher (Fay) and his second wife (Margaret) from Miramichi and Holt Maher (Dorathia) from Campbellton and later Riverview. Mom is survived by many wonderful nieces and nephews. Mom's life was devoted to her family who she loved and cared for all of her life and we will be forever grateful. Mom's life was busy in other areas as well. In her younger years during World War II, after receiving training with the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan, Mom, was an ambulance transport driver (she got her drivers license when she was 12 years old). She began an insurance company which later became Gorman Insurance. She belonged to St Michael's Parish all of her life. She was active in the Catholic Women's League and received her fifty year pin. She belonged to the Ladies Auxiliary Santa Maria, Knights of Columbus, Fr B. M. Broderick Council #1219 she was a member of Legion of Mary. Mom was an auxiliary member of the Miramichi #254 Wing a member of the Liberal Party and a member of the Chatham Curling Club (we always knew when we returned home from school that if a certain casserole was in the oven with potatoes baking that Mom was curling). She continued to watch curling on TV up to and including the Vancouver Olympics. Mom enjoyed playing bridge, loved Dr. Doyle's fudge and Eileen's creative treasures. She decorated with great exuberance for St Patrick's Day and the Irish Festival. (She always played "Hail Glory St Patrick" on the piano during these days) Mom and Dad traveled extensively during the years together, and also with their best travelling companions "The Doyle's" and had stories galore. Mom/ Snook's taxi drove the three of us to many activities as we were growing up and would always be the designated driver for Dad and the etc's. We will miss our multi generational shopping excursions to Moncton and the USA. We will be forever grateful to Mom for the lessons taught from the love and care that she gave to Nan during her 102 + years. During Mom's last years and with her declining physical condition, Mom's life was enriched by her many care givers and we would like to thank them all. We love and will miss our dear Mom, who is now with our dear Dad. Irene (Snookie) Gorman is resting at Maher's Funeral Home Miramichi, NB., on Wednesday, July 21st, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm.
