The death of Harold William McKnight, loving husband of Valerie Dolores (Ryan) McKnight occurred on Friday, July 30, 2010 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born 1922 in Saint John he was the son of the late Harry L. McKnight and Mabel (McKnight) Thorpe. He worked as an Industrial Mechanic for Iron Work and the Saint John Dry Dock. He was a member of the CN Seniors Bowling, Tuesday Senior Bowling and enjoyed woodworking, bowling and spending time with his family. Besides his loving wife Valerie of 31 years, he is survived by his children Twila Mahar (Stephen), Richard Armstrong (Judy), Chrystal Waugh (Phil), Joe Armstrong (Debra) and Brenda Lavine; 14 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; brother Nelson McKnight of Halifax, NS; canine friend Happy; several nieces and nephews and many friends. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by step father Steve Thorpe, brother Stewart, sisters Mildred and Hilda, and sister in law Evelyn.
Following cremation, visitations will be held from Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424) on Monday August 2, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held from Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday August 3, 2010 at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Black River United Cemetery.
