Robert Charles Stewart passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 7, 2010 at the Oromocto Hospital, with family at his side. Born 1917 in Elgin, he was the son of the late Charles and Dorothy (Wilson) Stewart. Bob worked for CNR for over 44 years as Yard Master, retiring in 1981; was a member of the Brother Hood of Railways and a long time member of the Edith Avenue Baptist Church. In his younger years Bob was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. In later years he enjoyed gardening, needlepoint and hooking rugs. Bob is survived by his sons Vernon "Joe" of Toronto, Brian (Pauline) and Paul (Susan) of Mactaquac; grandchildren Laura Lee, Ben, Caitlin, Cindy, Kim, Rhonda, Tamara and Amanda; 12 great grandchildren; sisters Mary Gormley (Leo) of Saint John, Dorothy Wright of Vancouver, BC and Peggy Trites of Hampton; nieces, nephews and many friends. Besides his parents, Bob was predeceased by his loving and devoted wife of 68 years Leona on July 26, 2010; a son Ronald in 2008; five brothers Reid, Donald, Earl, Harry and Dean and one sister Ida Leaman.
Following cremation, visitation will be held at the Fundy Funeral Home 230 Westmorland Rd. (646-2424) on Tuesday August 10, 2010 from 6 to 9:00 p.m. Memorial service will be held from the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday August 11, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Ocean View Memorial Gardens.
