O'BRIEN, Kennedy Joseph Jr. (Kenny) - MD., MA., MPH., CCBOM., FACOM. Born in St. John's April 3, 1953. Died in Ottawa August 12, 2010. It is with great sorrow that the family announces the death of a beloved husband, father, son and brother. He is survived by his wife Alexandra and his children Alexandra and Kennedy; his parents Dr. Kennedy and Catherine O'Brien; his sister Catherine; his brothers: Brian, Francis and Brendan and the Similski family, Wlodek, Krystyna and Agnes. He attended St. Bonaventure's College and Brother Rice High School and was a graduate of The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1976. He received a Masters Degree in Health Planning and Administration from the Nuffield Centre (WHO), University of Leeds, Yorkshire, England, a Masters Degree in Public Health from Johns Hopkins Medical Institution, Baltimore, Maryland and Canadian Board Certification in Occupational Medicine. In his professional career he was a senior medical consultant with Occupational Health and Safety Branch Labour Canada HQ and other Federal positions with HRSDC in Ottawa. He served for some time as Commanding Officer of a Medical Company in the Canadian Armed Forces Reserve and attained the Rank of Major. He gave his services as adviser and volunteer with the St. John Ambulance and the Canadian Red Cross. He was a talented illustrator and woodworker and an avid amateur astronomer with a network of friends worldwide. It gives us great solace at his passing that his life lived to the full we were graced to share.
