Leo Gauvin

GAUVIN - Rev. Father Leo Joseph Gauvin, O.M.I., 86, went home to the Lord on June 8, 2010, at the Oblate Madonna Residence in San Antonio, TX. He was born March 6, 1924, in Tessier, SK. The family later moved to Ponteix, SK, where he grew up. He was predeceased by his father, Louie Victor Gauvin; mother, Rose Gauvin; three sisters, Louise Dubourt, Rose Ernie, Irene McIntosh; one brother, Charles Gauvin. He is survived by two brothers, Phil Gauvin of Calgary and Gerry (Ruth) Gauvin of Swift Current; one sister, Cecile Hannan (Keith) of Edmonton; and many nieces and nephews. Father Leo took his schooling at Ponteix and at College Mathieu in Gravelbourg. He studied theology in Ottawa, and was ordained in Ponteix, June 25, 1950. He served in the air force as Chaplin in the Winnipeg air force base. Starting in 1969, he taught for several years at College Mathieu in Gravelbourg. In 1971, he was assigned to a parish in Omaha, NE. From there, he was assigned to teach at several Catholic Colleges in the USA. Following the closure of several colleges he was assigned as a pastor and co-pastor in several Catholic parishes in the USA. In 1986, he returned to teaching in American Catholic colleges for several more years. Following that, he was assigned as Chaplin at Santa Rosa Hospital in San Antonio. In 1997, he retired at the Oblate Madonna Residence in San Antonio and remained there until his death in 2010.
