“So very sad to hear this news. I was another one of the students who accompanied Marilyn on the exchange to Hangzhou in '99 - I think it is obvious from these comments that Marilyn's work at Mount Allison, and particularly her work setting up these incredible opportunities for students made a huge difference in many people's lives. I was also lucky enough to go on a tour of the Silk Road with Marilyn a few years later. These two trips were life changing to say the least. Marilyn was an inspiring teacher and a great friend. My thoughts go out to her family. ”
“Marilyn was a very special person to me. I was one of her students at MTA, who was part of the 1999 trip to Hangzhou. She always made time to listen and was very patient, supportive and was one who truly inspired learning. I will always remember her fondly. ”
“I was so sorry to hear of the passing of Marilyn. She taught me two Chinese History courses at Mount Allison and her enthusiasm for the course was incredible. I still take off the books from my book shelf and reread them from her courses. I don't do this for any other past courses. She was very inspirational.”
“I am profoundly saddened by this news. Marilyn was a truly magnificent person and I consider myself a richer person through the time we spent together at Mount Allison. My deepest sympathies to her family.
Sincerely,
Devin M.”
“I just received this sad news this morning. Marilyn was a pivotal person in my life and in the lives of many of my fellow classmates at Mount Allison. Her enthusiasm, curiosity and passion for life were truly infectious. I participated in Marilyn's '99 trip to Hangzhou which was nothing less than life-changing. She later supervised my Honour's thesis on China-US relations in the sixties. I was always amazed by the attention she lavished on her students in spite of her many onerous responsibilities. I am now pursuing an academic career in the field of China studies and this is exactly because of the fire Marilyn lit in me. She will always have a place in my heart.”
“I was very saddened to hear about Marilyn's death. She was a valuable ear to me in university and helped me to focus my future. i remember taking her out for her birthday one year; we shared french fries in Hangzhou and got to talk about our lives and dreams. We spoke nearly daily for two years and i will never forget the impact she had on me. i will miss her dearly. D”
“Dear Kim, Laura and Paul,
I was so sad to hear the news about your Mum. We met in Fall 1974 at Judy Gilmour's and shared many happy time & coffee over the next many years. You children were the love of her life and were always near in her conversations. I know you all will have many good times to remember as well. Jane”
“Just to let you know that I am thing of you and your loved ones. Marilyn was a lovely person and we worked together for years. She could always make me laugh and she was so dedicated to what she did. Many students were blessed by Marilyn as she was the driving force behind ensuring that courses were made available to those who were trying so hard to get their degrees on a part time bases.
I send you my prayers and thoughts in this difficult time.
Sincerely
Margaret”
