Norman William Johnston, B.Com-B.Ed.-M.Ed., of Bedford and formerly of Hebbville and Waterloo, passed away, Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010, at the QE II Health Sciences Centre, VG Site, Halifax.
Born in North Sydney, Feb. 17, 1941, he was the son of the late Sandford and Jessie (MacAskill) Johnston.
Norman was an educator at East and West Pictou High Schools, St. Mary's District, Guysborough County, founding principal at Park View Education Centre, Bridgewater; and superintendent of the Lunenburg County School Board.
He is survived by his wife, Heather MacLeod Johnston; sons, Peter (Kim), Ottawa, Mike (Angela), Yellowknife, Ted (Wanda), Summerside, Steve (Michele), Ottawa; grandchildren, Jacob and Hannah, Ottawa; Braden, Brian, Bailey, Yellowknife; Keith, Leah, Summerside; and Chloe, Ottawa.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213, Hwy. 3, Lunenburg. A service to celebrate Norman's life will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at United Memorial Church, 6375 Kaye St., Halifax. Rev. Catherine MacDonald officiating, assisted by Rev. Laurence Mawhinney.
