“I was deeply saddened to hear about the death of Dr Mackinnon. I met her in my hospital room about 3 yrs ago after recieving some very devastating news. Actually at first im not quite sure I even realized that she even was a Dr. Because when she came into my hospital room she sat right on my bed and introduced herself as Janet and she asked me how I was. At the time I was gravely ill and Dr's had been in and out of my room all day poking and proding at me like some kind of science project, But not her, when she had spoken with me it was like talking to someone who really cared for me as a person and not just another person with an illness. For the first time in my life while speaking to a Dr. I actually senced a Tremendous feeling of compassion and caring and I honestly know she meant this. She also explained everything to me in english and took the time to make sure I understood everything from testing to treatments. It wasnt until much later that I had realized that she had instilled in me a sence of hope and understanding of my situtuation and I will forever be so very grateful to her for this as it is not everyday that you meet such a person as this. I feel Truly blessed to have been her patient

    My Deepest Sympathy,

    Kristina Brown”

Her dedication to her work was incredible and she cared for so many patients and their families without counting the support she provided to her colleagues. She remains an inspiration to me and I will keep her in my thoughts and prayers. I wish to offer my sincere condoleances to her family and friends. “Janet was a classmate throughout school here in Prince Edward Island for a number of years. Although I haven't connected with Janet in a long time I discovered she became a doctor and had a successful career in Ontario. I would like to pass along my condolences to Janet's family and to say that I remember her as a quiet and caring individual and an excellent student.”
