1930 - 2010 - Allan Gates, 80, of Hillsborough passed away peacefully on September 10th, 2010 at his home. He was residing with his daughter and her husband, Maria and Glen Northrup and their family, who lovingly cared for him. He was born in Toronto on May 6, 1930. He worked on a farm for most of his life and he loved animals and driving tractors. He had a collection of die casts cars, of which he was proud of. Allan also enjoyed Canadian geography, and looking at maps was one of his hobbies. He also enjoyed music and played the harmonica. He was an avid wrestling fan, faithfully watching his Thursday night matches. He had a special place in his heart for his beloved cat "Dusty". His family meant everything to him and he loved them all very much. Above all things he was truly a loving husband, dad , Papa Bear, Poppy and Gramps, who will live on in the hearts of his loved ones forever. He will be deeply missed by his daughters, Maria Northrup (Glen) of Hillsborough and Laura Miller (Harriet) of Weldon; sons, Tom (Mary) and Paul (Antonia) both of Ontario; by his cherished grandchildren, Tina, Emily, Anna, Kimberly (Tim), Darryl (Sarah), T.J., Jay, Jessica, Thomas, Corey, Jennifer, Jasmine, Johnny and Andrew; he was a special great poppy to Zachery, Anthony, K.C., Max and Grace. He will also be missed by his sister, Peggy Hart (Jack) of Ontario. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his beloved wife, Dora (Dixon) Gates and by their eldest son, John.
He will be resting at the Albert County Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 7 to 9pm. The funeral service will be held at the Albert County Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 15th, 2010 at 2:00pm with Pastor Leonard Geldart officiating. Interment will be held in the Grey's Island Cemetery, Hillsborough, NB, where he will be laid to rest beside his wife Dora, who he missed greatly. In lieu of flowers donations to the Hillsborough Volunteer Fire Department would be appreciated by the family.
