POWERS, Lawrence George - 65, Elmsdale, passed away on September 11, 2010 after a brief illness. Born July 3, 1945 in Toronto, he was a son of John Powers and the late Lilian Powers. Larry was a retired Captain in the Canadian Forces (Navy), an avid outdoorsman, and self-taught woodworker. He had a passion for learning and was a fervent reader. Larry particularly enjoyed spending time with extended family in St. Bernard's, Nfld. He volunteered at St. Bernard's Catholic Church, Enfield. He is survived by his loving wife, Catherine, Elmsdale; sons, Jim (Lynne), Dartmouth; Shawn (Melissa), Halifax; Jamie, Calgary, Alta.; and Dean, Dundas, Ont.; brothers, Frank and John; sisters, Catherine and Claire; granddaughters, Shelley, Carley, Mackenzie, Sianna, Amanda and Daria. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, and funeral service will be 10:45 a.m. Thursday, both in St. Bernard's Catholic Church, Enfield, Reverend Andrew Rembarczyk officiating. Burial to follow in St. Bernard's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Bernard's Catholic Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative, Upper Musquodoboit.
